Becca Klassen
November 2009

Throughout college, Becca Klassen has taken at least 15 credit hours every semester and held one or two jobs while staying involved with the community and the University. She has learned the importance of responsibility and balance, and to consider others in her decision making process. Through her experiences with children, Becca sees the benefits of cherishing everyday and to really value every individual. Her professors have taught her essential information, but most importantly how to reflect and re-evaluate. Her experience at Kansas State University has taught her the significance of being open-minded in all situations. College has been the most rewarding experience for her, thus far.

Through the years here, Becca has had the opportunity to coach through the Manhattan Recreation Commission. She has been in charge of three teams: a boy’s tee-ball team, a 3rd and 4th grade girl’s basketball team, and a 3rd and 4th grade girl’s softball team. This has helped her grow not only has a coach but as a person. Becca learned a lot about listening, about explaining, about management, and about herself through these experiences. The way that children look at the world through a clean lens is a great lesson in humility and understanding that she obtained through this experience with her kids.

Becca has served as president of the Social Studies Club for two years and is active in her sorority. She feels she has been privileged to work with so many different and truly amazing women with whom she has been surrounded. She has learned the importance of collaboration. Whether organizing major events, working to create a float to represent the chapter, or being involved at her sorority, she has learned how to balance school, work, and social engagements. Prioritizing is key in learning how to compromise in order to achieve a common goal.

She was recognized by her sorority with the Pi of the Month award, which means she was selected by the chapter as the person who had best represented what it means to be a member of Alpha Delta Pi.

The Education Council is pleased to recognize Becca Klassen as College of Education Student of the Month.
